لعلَّنا نستطيع، بالمنظور الشامل، فهم التطوُّر الأشعري، من وجهة النظر الإسلامية أيضاً، على أنَّه تطوُّر فكري صحي اقترب به الإسلام أكثر ما يمكن من مستوى ارتقاء الفكر المسيحي عن الإله. لكن معالجة بعض المشاكل أيضاً، ومنها، مثلاً، في حالتنا هذه، مشكلة الأحاديث المظلمة من قبل ابن فورك تبدو موفّقة وجاءت في مكانها. فما يهمّ الأشعري عند قيامه بالتأويل هو إيجاد الرُّوح في مظاهرها المختلفة بالضرورة والمتغيِّرة غالباً مع مرور الزمن بدافع السرور والمتعة، أي إيجادها في حالتنا هذه في بادىء الأمر في الكلمات المصاغة بصورة صائبة بطريقة تقية ودينية، الأمر الذي تتميَّز به الأحاديث فعلاً ـ بصرف النظر عن طابع الوحي الذي ينسبه لها المسلمون ـ ثم بعد ذلك في الأفكار اللاهوتية المتنامية عن طبيعة الله وصفاته. ولذلك سيكون الحكم على كل تفسير قسري أينما كان بأنَّه فشل لبداية صحيحة بحدِّ ذاتها أو أنَّه مبالغة بشرية لقضية اكتشفت بصورة موفَّقة. أما الأداة التي يستعملها ابن فورك في التأويل فهي اللغة؛ وهذه طريقة مميَّزة بشكل خاص. فهو يثق كل الثقة بأنَّها يمكن أن تُساهم كثيراً في فهم الأحاديث بشكل صحيح (انظر الرقم 49 والصفحة 99)، إذا ما التزم المرء فقط بها وبقوانينها الخاصَّة باستعمال الكلمات وبمعانيها وبالاستعمال اللغوي. ومن يريد تكوين صورة عن هذه القناعة وعن تطبيق هذه الطريقة في استعمال اللغة، يستطيع الاطلاع، مثلاً، على الفصلين: «تعجُّب الله»، و«نفس الله». في الفصل المذكور آخراً يجري الحديث عن الحديث النبوي القائل: «لا تسبّ الريح لأنَّها من نَفَس الرَّحمن» . هنا يقول لنا ابن فورك: إنَّ «النَّفَس» له معنيان: إمَّا «التنفُّس» أو «التنفيس». وعند استبعاد المعنى الأوَّل لا يبقى إلاَّ الثاني. من الممكن حقّاً أن يقول المرء إنَّ ابن فورك وجد في هذا السياق صيغاً تُوحي لنا بالمضمون الخالد وبالمعنى الأخير لمثل هذا الحديث الذي يصوِّر الإله بهيئة بشرية، أي إنَّ الله هو الملاذ المطلق والعزاء الأخير. ومن الممكن أيضاً أن يدرك المرء أنَّ هناك نوعاً من العمق التقي للغة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك يتبيَّن من هذا بشكل صائب وصحيح أنَّ هذا الحديث لا يتعرَّض بتاتاً للمسألة الأُخرى وهي مسألة ما إذا كان لله جسد أم لا، إذ يتركها كلياً في الخلفية لا يتحدَّث عنها ولا يحسمها. إلاَّ أنَّ كلّ هذا لا يعود الفضل فيه إلى ابن فورك وتفسيره. صحيح أنَّ تفسيره يتضمَّن البدايات لكنَّه يبقى عاماً جداً وعقلانياً كما يتبيَّن من قراءة الفصول ذات الصلة. ولكن، على أيِّ حال، يعود له الفضل في سلوك هذا الطريق.
